On May 19th 1999 a new era of Star Wars movies dawned as The Phantom Menace opened in theaters, the first new Star Wars movie in 16 years. Understandably, anticipation was high, and it went on to become one of the top grossing films of all time.

Now we look back at the milestones of Star Wars 10 years ago, including the toys, the lines for tickets, Star Wars Celebration I, the midnight movie showings, the costuming, and the people who made Episode I the memorable experience it is today.
